The Spring Book Basket

Thoughts of spring are upon us, as we begin our garden planting. We have a seasonal book basket & the books within change with each season.

Although not officially spring until March the 20th, I have just stored away our winter books & lifted out the spring time selection.

I thought it would be fun to share:

Spring Story (Brambly Hedge)

Pelle's New Suit

Spring

How a Seed Grows

A Seed Is Sleepy

The Dandelion Seed

The Jesus Garden: An Easter Legend

The Spring Rabbit

Toad by the Road: A Year in the Life of These Amazing Amphibians

Home for a Bunny

In our home, we are bookaholics!, so any recommendations you may have for springtime reading, please do leave a comment.

I've been following your blog for a little while now (via Deut 6:7), thanks for sharing. I'm just wondering if your books which are out of season are accessible to the children or if they are kept tucked away?

Hello! The out of season books are kept in a big basket in the attic, so generally speaking, out of reach. (Although they do go up there to play, sometimes)
If we need a book out of season (eg we have some butterfly books in our summer basket) Then I just go & retrieve said book.

I started reading your blog a few weeks ago. I found you through another blog somewhere. I love your homeschool ideas and links. You inspire me! We've been homeschooling for about a year and a half and I still feel like I'm trying to get the hang of it and figure out what approach we should take. I also enjoy your pictures - it's fun to see what life is like in England. (We're in the USA - Utah, to be exact.) I can't think of any springtime books that we read traditionally, however I do love the author Maj Lindman. Her books were originally published in the 1930s. Each story teaches a worthwhile lesson. She wrote about 3 Swedish brothers (Snipp, Snapp, and Snurr) and 3 Swedish sisters (Flicka, Ricka, and Dicka). I find them very charming!

P.S. As I was looking over your blog again just now I realized that there is nothing that says you are in England, or even the UK. Perhaps I just assumed you were because of some of the pictures and some of the phrases you use. Oops! Sorry about that!

Oh, I have SO many favorite springtime reads, but I'm going to give you my newest favorite...Spring Things, by Bob Raczka. This is a very simple book that has such fun melodic rhyme. It may be geared towards young children, but I love it as well as my older kids!

Thanks for the contest!

Blessings, Melissa

Periodically, I will pick a general topic and then check out as many books on that topic as I can and see which one(s) are interesting. Two years ago, when my son was 3, I did this with "Earth Day". The only book I really remember is "Earth Day Hooray" by Stuart J Murphy, a level 3 living math book about place value! For a 3-year old! But he LOVED it, so I checked it out again last year for Earth Day, and he still loves it. We saw an ad for our zoo's Earth Day event coming up and he asked me for it again. Maybe I'm going to have to break down and buy it!
