A Proud Mummy Post!

Do you remember this picture?

Well, here is the result:

I am a very proud mummy!

E is now busy spinning a grogeous baby cake (batt) from Loop. These things are seriously beautiful! However, my daughter has caught the 'how thin can I spin' bug & has decided she needs to save up to buy a new, lighter spindle.
Thats my girl ;)

WoolFest!

We left home at 7am & returned home at 6pm & had a thoroughly wonderful time :)

E bought lots of fibre: including some bright roving from Krafty Koala, some angora rabbit fibre:

lots of sample packs of fibre & angelina to add a bit of shimmer to her spinning.
She also bought a little weaving kit, a toy sheep for herself & one for her little sister who was at home having fun with daddy.
I picked up two new spindles - a lovely 10g for extra fine lace weight, a heavier one for bulky weight yarn (I need to weigh that one!) Some Angel yarn, which is a - cashmere/baby alpaca/silk blend I have this in mind for the
Lady`s circular cape

Some alum, for when we get around to dying our fibre with plant dyes. I also picked up a lot of silk/baby alpaca blend that was on sale at Fyberspates. This is for some teddy bears I would like to knit for the girls for Christmas.
I was also really happy to pick up a copy of Spinning in the Old Way. I have read half of the book already! What a great resource.
I have probably forgotten a few things, but, suffice to say, we came home loaded up with goodies!
We met some lovely people there & had a super time E ate a lot of Ewe's milk icecream which she declared to be delicious!
Here's looking forward to 2010 :)

Midsummer

Midsummer went well, despite the fact that I was recovering from a fall a few days earlier.

We had friends visit:

& the daddies got to work fixing some plumbing whilst the mummies put up the tent:

We camped, read A Midsummer Nights Dream, knitted, talked, looked for mice & snuggled up in our cosy beds. (Miss R is in her bed in the middle!)

We walked on walking day - E with her Rainbow's pack:

And Miss R with her snail buddy :)

And then, after reading our current read aloud & eating supper, the little people in our home were tucked up in bed by 6 O'clock.
And mummy settled down to some knitting :)

Plans for Midsummer

Night-time stars and bonfires bright
Families and friends sing on good St. John's Night
Summer sun, the sweet smell of hay,
And Children all dancing on Midsummer Day.

At Midsummer time the fairies come out,
If children could see them with glee they would shout!
On Midsummer's Eve even gnomes try to dance,
In fairy-ring revels they awkwardly prance.
On Midsummer Day elves and fairies all fly
From acorns and buttercups up to the sky.

- Mala Powers -

Midsummer is almost upon us.

We will be enjoying this special, easy time of the Lord's creation by camping in our garden :)
We hope to see the fox that frequents the lane behind our house, listen to the frogs & toads in our garden, see the bats & any other nocturnal creatures that may care to visit. (Although, as Miss R is not the most quiet of three year olds, we may find ourselves strangely alone)
The night sky will also give us food for thought:

Psalm 8

O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
Your glory is higher than the heavens.
You have taught children and infants
to tell of your strength,
silencing your enemies
and all who oppose you.

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them[e] with glory and honor.
You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
the flocks and the herds
and all the wild animals,
the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.

O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!

Psalm 148

Praise the Lord!

Praise the Lord from the heavens!
Praise him from the skies!
Praise him, all his angels!
Praise him, all the armies of heaven!
Praise him, sun and moon!
Praise him, all you twinkling stars!
Praise him, skies above!
Praise him, vapors high above the clouds!
Let every created thing give praise to the Lord,
for he issued his command, and they came into being.
He set them in place forever and ever.
His decree will never be revoked.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
you creatures of the ocean depths,
fire and hail, snow and clouds,[a]
wind and weather that obey him,
mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
wild animals and all livestock,
small scurrying animals and birds,
kings of the earth and all people,
rulers and judges of the earth,
young men and young women,
old men and children.

Let them all praise the name of the Lord.
For his name is very great;
his glory towers over the earth and heaven!
He has made his people strong,
honoring his faithful ones—
the people of Israel who are close to him.

Praise the Lord!

We will possibly watch A Midsummer Night's Dream again before Midsummer & we will certainly read this story as we camp.
Whatever you get up to, enjoy! Life is for living!

Thunder, Midsummer & A Lovely Surprise!

On Monday, the sky darkened, so we settled down to watch a movie. Not any old movie, but William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. We have read this play many times in story form, but have not seen it performed, so I wondered how the children would receive it.
They loved it! It really is such a magical story, & they were enchanted.
Part way through the film, we saw a flash of lightening, so we paused the film to watch the theatre in the heavens! It was glorious & down came the heavy rains...
Pressed up against the windows, E shouted, "the parcel man is here!" & indeed the parcel force guy came down the path, carrying E's long awaited spindle!
My dear friend, Tari, who lives in the US, had, a week ago, sent a spindle for E. We quickly grabbed some scissors & tore into the box:

Do you see how choc full it is???
The observant amongst you will note 1) the spindle is already missing! LOL! & 2) that sweet little Rosie foot in the corner :)
My very kind friend sent us a new spindle for E, a book of bird stickers, (snapped up straight away by Miss R, & immediately added to her scrapbook.) Spin off magazine, which I have read cover to cover several times, now! Three skiens of her own plant-dyed yarn, 100g of her own BFL fibre, The most amazing Laceweight (cant wait to knit this!) some beautifuly soft suri alpaca, & some hand dyed, hand made felt. Wow! what a treat for us! E decided that she would like me to make her a new knitting bad from the felt.

I transferred all of E's previous spinning from my spindle to her own new one & away she went:

Here she is spinning & back to watching A Midsummer Night's Dream:

The girls went away on tuesday with their grandparents for two days, so I set about crafting a new knitting bag. Here it is, the second photo is blurred, but you get the idea of the lovely cherry lining:

Thank you again, Tari!

Taste of Summer

We have been making the most of the summer sun here in the last few days.
Our day today was filled with reading, talking about our faith in the Lord, tasting good food:

Being inspired:

Reading from our Bible & journaling about it.

Knitting:

Planning more knitting

Getting wet:

And more stories.

We are outdoors as much as possible when the sun shines, I like to sit in the shade of our magnolia tree. I get far too hot otherwise. We had a happy day....I hope you did too.
